Details of barristers on this website were first compiled from the publicly-available Bar Council yearbook in the 1990s. However, a few barristers have since indicated that they do not wish to publicise their contact details. The most recent email from a barrister (including capitals) said:
“Dear Mr Wood
You have, without my authorisation or consent, placed personal data on the internet, namely, my home telephone number. I have today received a telephone call at my home number.
PLEASE REMOVE ALL DATA RELATING TO ME IMMEDIATELY AND PLEASE CONFIRM THAT YOU HAVE DONE SO, FAILING WHICH I WILL REFER THE MATTER TO THE DATA PROTECTION COMMISSIONER. PLEASE DO NOT PLACE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT ME ON ANY WEBSITE.
Please respond to confirm that this has been done. When that is done, please delete my e-mail address from your pc, all IT systems and all other filing systems.”
Rather than publish a partial list, and to avoid breaching the General Data Protection Regulation, ALL barristers’ details have been removed from this website.
As well, the Law Library site now says: "We have gathered these names and contact details and put them on this website to help solicitors to contact the Bar Council's members. The database may be used for this purpose, however, no one may extract or re-use the database or any substantial part of it." Individual barristers’ contact details may still be found on the site here.
